Walking through Dubai is about to become much easier and safer, thanks to new initiatives from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) . The city, known for its fast-paced development and world-class infrastructure, is now putting stronger emphasis on pedestrian mobility, ensuring residents and visitors alike enjoy safer, more accessible, and sustainable ways to move around. Expanding Pedestrian Connectivity As part of the ambitious Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, the RTA has recently completed two new pedestrian bridges on Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Mina Street. These are just the beginning of a wider plan to make Dubai more pedestrian-friendly. In addition, six new pedestrian and cyclist bridges have been constructed across key streets in the city. Out of these, five will open before the end of this year, while the sixth is set to be completed by early 2027. But the plans don’t stop there. By 2030, the RTA aims to build 23 additional bridges, dramatically increasin...

Dubai’s Drive for Clean Streets: Over 1,300 Abandoned Vehicles Removed in 2025

Image
Dubai  continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the cleanest and most well-maintained cities in the world. In the first half of 2025 alone, the Dubai Municipality removed more than  1,300 abandoned vehicles and equipment  from across the emirate. This large-scale effort reflects the city’s ongoing mission to safeguard public health, improve safety, and maintain its world-class urban image. Alongside the removals, officials issued over  6,100 warning notices  to vehicle owners across residential, commercial, and industrial zones. These notices serve as a first step, alerting owners about their responsibility to maintain or relocate neglected vehicles before stricter actions are taken.   Why Abandoned Vehicles Are a Concern According to Engineer Saeed Abdul Rahim Safar, Director of the Waste Operations Department at Dubai Municipality, abandoned vehicles pose multiple risks. Left unattended for long periods, these cars and equipment not only sp...

30 Dubai Metro Fines You Should Know Before Your Next Ride

The Dubai Metro   is one of the most efficient and convenient ways to travel across the city’s busiest areas. Whether you’re commuting to work or exploring on the weekend, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has set out strict rules and regulations to ensure smooth, safe, and pleasant journeys for all passengers. Failure to follow these rules could result in fines ranging from Dhs100 to Dhs2,000. Here’s a breakdown of the 30 Dubai Metro fines every passenger should be aware of. These include eating, drinking, or chewing gum inside the train, sitting in the wrong cabin (such as men in the women-and-children cabin or non-Gold Class passengers in Gold Class), and putting your feet on seats. Entering restricted or non-passenger areas inside stations and trains also falls under this category. Drivers should note that parking in Metro lots is only free for valid nol card users—parking without v...

This move comes as Dubai’s population nears four million, increasing the demand for reliable and convenient ways to travel across the city.   The introduction of new routes will improve connectivity in busy districts such as Al Ghubaiba, Jebel Ali, Al Quoz, and Al Qusais. Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, explained that the goal is to strengthen the bus network while ensuring smooth integration with other transport systems, including the metro, tram, and marine services. Among the new additions, two routes—62A and 62B—have been created by splitting the existing Route 62 to better serve passengers in Al Qusais. Parkin, the city’s largest paid parking operator, has partnered with charge&go, a subsidiary of e&, to set up 200 ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the emirate. This 10-year project is designed to meet the growing demand for EV charging and support Dubai’s long-term plans for clean energy and sustainability. When and where will the chargers be available? The rollout begins in October 2025, when the first 20 chargers will be installed at busy locations. Within a year, the network will grow to 200 charging points in residential communities, shopping centers, leisure destinations, and other high-traffic spots. What makes these chargers special? The new charging units will be Direct Current (DC) ultra-fast chargers, capable of fully charging an electric car in less than 30 minutes. This is much quicker than conventional Alternating Current (AC) chargers, which often take several hours. Faste...
