30 Dubai Metro Fines You Should Know Before Your Next Ride

 


The Dubai Metro is one of the most efficient and convenient ways to travel across the city’s busiest areas. Whether you’re commuting to work or exploring on the weekend, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has set out strict rules and regulations to ensure smooth, safe, and pleasant journeys for all passengers. Failure to follow these rules could result in fines ranging from Dhs100 to Dhs2,000. Here’s a breakdown of the 30 Dubai Metro fines every passenger should be aware of.

Common Fines of Dhs100

Several passenger-related violations carry a fine of Dhs100. These include eating, drinking, or chewing gum inside the train, sitting in the wrong cabin (such as men in the women-and-children cabin or non-Gold Class passengers in Gold Class), and putting your feet on seats. Entering restricted or non-passenger areas inside stations and trains also falls under this category.

Drivers should note that parking in Metro lots is only free for valid nol card users—parking without validation can cost you Dhs100. Other violations with the same fine include causing disturbances, carrying items that inconvenience others, misusing lifts or escalators, opening doors while the train is moving, or climbing and jumping while boarding. Bringing animals (except guide dogs) is also prohibited.

Fines of Dhs200

Some rules carry a slightly higher fine of Dhs200. This includes failing to pay for services beyond the fare gates, not presenting your nol card when requested, or selling nol cards without RTA approval. Using a card designated for others, using expired or invalid cards, or selling goods inside stations will also result in a Dhs200 fine.

Passengers must also comply with inspectors’ instructions. Failing to do so, misusing facilities against posted instructions, or distracting the driver all carry a fine of Dhs200. Additionally, spitting, littering, or smoking anywhere in the Metro or its facilities fall under this fine bracket.

 

Fines of Dhs300

Sleeping inside passenger shelters or designated no-sleeping areas is not allowed. Anyone caught doing so faces a Dhs300 fine.

 

Fines of Dhs500

More serious violations include carrying alcohol or attempting to use a counterfeit nol card. Both will result in a Dhs500 penalty.

 

High-Risk Violations: Dhs1,000 to Dhs2,000

Carrying hazardous items such as weapons, sharp tools, or flammable materials is strictly prohibited and carries a hefty fine of Dhs1,000. Even more severe are violations involving emergency systems. Misusing emergency exits, safety devices, or pressing emergency buttons without valid cause can result in fines of up to Dhs2,000.
