Dubai’s Roadmap to the Future: 57 Major Projects to Transform Transportation by 2027

 


Dubai is on the brink of a major transformation in its transportation landscape, with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announcing an ambitious plan to complete 57 large-scale road projects by 2027. As the city continues to grow, these developments aim to significantly reduce traffic congestion, improve travel times, and accommodate the needs of residents, commuters, and businesses. The 2025–2027 infrastructure plan, recently reviewed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, marks a strategic step in reshaping urban mobility in one of the world’s fastest-evolving cities.

 

A major highlight of this transformation includes the construction of 115 new bridges and tunnels and the addition of 226 kilometres of new roads across the emirate. These enhancements will contribute to the development of 11 key road corridors, making everyday travel smoother and more efficient. By focusing on long-term traffic solutions, the RTA is preparing Dubai for future urban expansion while also addressing current transportation bottlenecks.

 

One of the most significant projects underway is the Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra Corridor. Spanning 16 kilometres, phase one of the project is already 50% complete. The corridor includes upgrades to four major junctions and is expected to slash travel times dramatically—from 46 minutes to just 11 minutes. Similarly, the Hessa Street upgrade is progressing rapidly, with around 60% of the work completed. The project features 9,000 metres of bridges and will double the road’s capacity from 4,000 to 8,000 vehicles per hour, reducing average travel times from 30 minutes to only seven.
